Welcome to our final newsletter for 2012

A message from our Resident Manager - Bruce Botes.

Another year has almost passed, with lots of interesting times and changes at Cathedral Peak Hotel.  This year has seen changes to our management team, exciting and fun-filled holidays for our guests and now the arrival of Summer.  New flowers, a green golf course, ever growing wildlife herds and endlessly long days.  We are looking forward to a very busy festive season, with action packed holiday activities ahead.  As the year comes to a close we look back on 2012 with pride, in both the improvements made and the efforts of our loyal team.  We wish you and your families a very happy festive season and a prosperous 2013.  Please travel safely to your holiday destinations and we hope to see you all again very soon.

A little about Our Loyal Team

Faya Hlongwane

Faya started working at the Hotel in 1986 working closely with Mrs Doreen van der Riet in the gardens.  Amusingly, guests overhearing Mrs van der Riet calling out for Faya were seen to scatter, asking “where is the fire?”  Over the years Faya has worked his way up to supervisor status and is well respected by his colleagues and staff.

Zime Mahlobo

Bringing some glamour to our Dining Room is our Head Waitress Zime, who has been with us for 4 years.  Mother to Nomfundo - her 3 year old daughter - Zime has a desire to grow within the F&B department and loves reading - helping to improve her English.

Simon Ndaba

Chef de Partie Simon has been the smiling face serving at our breakfast and dinner buffet for the past 4 years.  Married with 2 chidren aged 10 and 14, Simon is a very keen runner, having completed the Comrades 4 times.  Simon has recently started his training again - gearing up for the 2014 Comrades Marathon.

A Round Of Golf

A Little History

Kevin Pickford, a recent visitor and guest at our Hotel, kindly sent in this article. This crash happened near our Hotel and is referred to in the "The Story of Cathedral Peak Hotel" booklet. A very close call for the Pickford family.

Featured Walk - Baboon Rock

It's easy to see where this beauty got its name...  The 4 hour walk to Baboon Rock will take you past the golf fairway, up the ridge, close to some precipitous edges, with a wonderful view of the Hotel from above.  One of the many stunning walks that start at the sun dial at the Hotel.  Ask our Reception or Entertainment team for more information or to book a guided hike.

Spotlight On

Anna Miller recently visited the Hotel and shared the following lovely memories with us.  In 1945 Anna took up position of Receptionist at Cathedral Peak Hotel, where she met her late husband - Trevor (who used to visit once a month from Durban in his little red sports car).

Anna and Trevor married in 1948 and honeymooned at the Hotel.  Anna mentioned that the last time she saw William van der Riet was when she visited his Mum in hospital shortly after he was born.

Anna celebrates her birthday this month and we extend her our very best wishes for a wonderful day.

Thank You

Season's Greetings

The Proprietors, Management and Staff of Cathedral Peak Hotel thank you for your continued support and we wish you and your families a blessed festive season and a prosperous new year

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Hotel very soon.
